We had a magical afternoon crowned with a High Tea
served at AACI. We counted with the presence of some British ladies who showed
us the “Secrets of Tea”. They also revealed some of their most precious recipes
while we tasted delicious scones, cakes, cucumber sandwiches, English tea and
the like.

Pub Crawl
After the final tests students
at AACI Lomas decided that they were going to celebrate the end of the year
with their partners going to the pub trail organized by the institute.
We left at 9pm and at that
precise time the fun started. There were games testing students’ knowledge of
the Irish culture and then we had raffles of several Irish items.
We visited Downtown Matias, The Kylkenny’s and John John,
which are the most representative Irish
pubs in Buenos Aires. We exchanged experiences with the people there, we
practised English with tourists and, believe it or not, people wondered where
they could study English in such a great environment.
Our answer came out
immediately: you have to come to AACI!
Dissident´s Cemetery - Santa Catalina
Lomas de Zamora’s antique
railway tracks reveal the history of the Dissidents’
cemetery, founded there in 1897. The British community set up in Temperley and its surroundings,
creating the railway and with this, a whole new world.
We started
our day trip with a group of children, teenagers and adults departing by van to
the cemetery. Once there, we met Arnold
and Christine Dodds, who turned out to be our guides all throughout the
trip.
We
discovered the old inscriptions in the tombs, we learnt about the history of
the cemetery and the people buried there. We went back in time listening to
Christine’s childhood anecdotes, and we couldn’t hide our tears when we
listened to Arnold reading some representative poems in his culture. We will always cherish these magical moments
inside the chapel and we want to thank Mr Armengou, head of the cemetery, for
his help and authorization to visit this historical place.

AACI, the Asociación Argentina de Cultura Inglesa is a non profit language school founded in 1927. There are five branches in all and ours is in Lomas de Zamora, a neighbourhood that is aproximately 16 km from the obelisk - southbound - and it has a population of around 120,000.
There are many bilingual schools in Lomas de Zamora as many british immigrants settled in the area back in the 19th century. Most of them worked for the British Railway and the gardened chaltes built by railway executives near the railway stations of Remedios de Escalada, Banfield, Lomas de Zamora and Temperley gave an English atmosphere to this area.

Celebrating Shakespeare
This year we are celebrating the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare's birth with a number of events at our British Arts Centre.
We enjoyed not only a collage of scenes of Shakespeare´s most famous plays and sonnets but also the presentation of some insightful reflections about this worldwide known author. We had lots of fun!

Story Telling with Brittany and Elliot, two american exchange students that paid us a visit!
Brittany and Elliot, two CEA exchange students, visited us at AACI Lomas to do some storytelling
They chose a well known story: "The Three Little Pigs"
While Elliot told the story, Brittany mimed it
We then drew some scenes of the story
It was fun!
We even had "mate" together!
They then visited some classes and told us about Michigan, the place where they come from
One group of kids even prepared a flipbook of the story

We enjoyed ourselves to the full ... Thanks tons, Brittany and Elliot!
